About hair systems

What is a hair system?

A hair system is created using human or synthetic hair and hand-woven onto a particular base of material such as polymer skin or lace. The base is then adhered to the individual's head with the preferred method of attachment (tape or adhesive), and then cut and blended to make it undetectable and natural looking.

They are fixed on with various adhesives, sometimes called bonding adhesives, which come in different base formulas. These formulas are popular because they allow for a stronger hair system bond. Liquid adhesives are available for both perimeter bonding and full head bonding.

Hair systems can last anything from 3 to 6 months, depending on care and the type of system. We recommend a maintenance session every 3 to 4 weeks on average, to keep both the hair and your scalp in the best condition.

Fitting day

How your fitting works.

  1. Before anything is shaved or fitted, we agree together where your hairline will sit: how high it starts, how far back it goes at the temples, and how it frames your face. We take our time over this at the mirror, and nothing goes on until you're happy with it. If you'd like anything changed or altered, this is the moment to say, ideally at your initial fitment booking.

  2. Your scalp is shaved and prepared so the system can sit flat against the skin and the bond is as secure as possible.

  3. The system is positioned along the hairline we agreed and fixed with your preferred method of attachment, either tape or adhesive. If the first option isn't holding as well as hoped, there are alternatives we can try together.

  4. Once it's on, the system is cut and blended into your own hair, so the hairline and the sides look natural and undetectable.

  5. We finish by styling the system the way you'll wear it, then talk you through looking after it at home. We recommend a maintenance session every 3 to 4 weeks, and you'll find our aftercare guide here on the site.

Questions

Good to know.

Honest answers to the questions we hear most about hair systems.

Will people be able to tell?

Properly fitted and colour-matched, they won't. A natural hairline is built by hand during fitting, and the system is then cut and blended to suit you.

Will it damage my own hair?

Fitted and cared for properly, a hair system shouldn't harm your own hair. Regular maintenance appointments keep it comfortable and looking its best.

Is a hair system only for people with hair loss?

No. People choose a hair system for confidence, for thinning or receding hair, or simply because they want a change. Whatever brings you in, you're welcome here.

Who decides where my hairline sits?

You do, with our guidance. At the start of your fitting we agree where the hairline will sit, how high, how far back at the temples and how it suits your face, before anything is shaved or fitted. Any changes you'd like should be raised then, ideally at your initial fitment booking.

What happens at the consultation?

It's a conversation, without pressure or obligation. We talk through your options and what to expect, so you can decide if a hair system is right for you.

Why does a private studio matter?

A hair system appointment is personal. At FORME it takes place one-to-one, away from a busy shop floor, so you can relax and ask whatever you like.
